From John: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

Christians believe Jesus is the Logos or active word of God. As Paul claims, He came to complete or fulfill the Jewish scripture. In doing so, He made didn't make the old covenant obsolete, but completed it.

Some use the term "living Word of God", since Jesus' life is an example and is believed to be a fulfilment of all the laws of the Old Testament. We also believe that as Christians, who try very hard to be "christ-like", Christ lives in us and speaks the Word of God to us through the Holy Spirit.

Now this might sound quite trippy to some of my more secular friends, but there it is. I haven't heard any "voices" per se, but still I'd like to think I have a sense of what God wants of me most of the time, even if I ignore it :p

And yes, Christians love capital letters.

Oh, I knew that. I was just wondering why you used the term "Jesus is the word of god"?

We believe God is three in one (like a shampoo). This is called the Trinity. Jesus is God's physical manifestation on Earth, the Holy Spirit is that personal part of God which becomes a part of us and assists us in our daily lives. Finally, Father God (Yahweh) is the God of the Jewish Old Testament, the creator the big cheese, so to speak. We believe that these three personas are all part of the same whole, the one "God" we believe, just different manifestations thereof.

Aah, there\'s no guarantee of that. Many religions have simply died out. Either because they fell out of favour or all the proponents were wiped out by the other religion(s).

Although my faith is an exclusive kind of faith (Jesus claimed to be \"the way\") my continual prayer is that the universalists are right.

Well, we agree, except on "who's running the show" so to speak.

I find literallists hard to believe since we no longer have the bible in it's original form. I'm sure their god would have provided original hebrew/aremiac..

It's called being smart and curious about things, instead of just believing everything everyone tells you ;)

Also, can you elaborate on the whole Jesus is god, thing? How's that work exactly?
(How hospitality is more important than your daughters (virginities), which in some places, hospitality IS still that important)

Not quite on topic, but blah. Believing in creationism leads to the point that "a" god/supernatural being(s) exist, but obvioulsy does not prove a Christian god. Most religions go to a certain extent to argue that others are false, or do not exist, and in the end who is correct? The Bible, Koran, Bhagavad-Gita, either only one of them is correct, or none of them are correct.

Most of these books were used to define a set of moral values and laws for their given society, and in the end to provide a means of control for the often ruling priest classes of the ancient era.

The problem I find is that with religions being burried so deeply in antiquity that there is no easy way to tell whether all of these religions share some common root, and what parts were simply made up by people for their own gains. I have no doubt in my mind that if L Ron Hubbard was around 2000 years ago and managed similar success to what he has achieved now that books like Dianetics would infact be held in similar esteem to the Bible and Koran now.
